  • Foreskin stuck behind the head of the penis is called "paraphimosis"
  • In 90% of uncircumcised males, the foreskin usually becomes fully retractable by 3-6 yr.
  • Urgent Care - Have you identified one or more of the following symptoms?
    • Abnormal urine stream (weak, dribbles, stops and starts)
    • Foreskin draining pus

    Self-Management - You can help in the following ways:
    • If recommended by your Health Care Provider you may gently retract the foreskin once during bathing
    • During retraction, clean the exposed part of the penis with warm water
    • Dry the head of penis carefully
    • Rinse all soap from under foreskin (may cause irritation and swelling)
    • Avoid vigorous retraction (may cause foreskin to become stuck behind head of penis)
    • Retraction is excessive if it causes any discomfort or crying
    • Any degree of retraction is normal as long as the boy has a normal urine stream
